Porcelain Laminated Teeth

Porcelain laminated (laminate veneers); It is the process of bonding the aesthetic material prepared in the laboratory environment to the front surface of the tooth in order to provide permanent change in the shape and color characteristics of the teeth. It helps to make the dental appearance more aesthetic in accordance with the facial features, habits, tooth structure, expectations and certain proportion features on the face.

What is the difference between porcelain laminates and veneers?

In porcelain veneers, all surfaces of the teeth are abraded. In porcelain laminates, erosion on the teeth is limited only to the anterior region of the tooth. It helps to protect healthy tooth tissue to a great extent, especially in treatments planned for aesthetic purposes. In porcelain laminates, there is usually no or little pain, as the etching is minimal. Sometimes anesthesia is not required.

What are the advantages of porcelain laminate application?

For treatment, it is sufficient to wear only the front surface of the tooth. During the procedure, the natural forms of your teeth can be preserved to a great extent. The porcelains used have high resistance to abrasion. Porcelain laminate becomes more durable when adhered to the tooth surface. No color change is observed in the material over time. The porcelain to be applied is prepared with a polished surface. In this way; It minimizes the staining problems that can occur on the surface of products with coloring properties such as cigarettes, tea and coffee. The planned changes in teeth are designed before the procedure. A rehearsal material is prepared over this design and the patient is informed about the result of the planned procedure. If necessary, arrangements can be made on the design before starting the process.

Porcelain laminates are preferred for the treatment of which teeth?

Porcelain laminates can be used to regulate the shape properties of the teeth. It is especially preferred in extending the length of the teeth and closing the spaces between the teeth. The treatment of minimal fracture, crack or abrasion problems on the front surface of the tooth or in the cutting area can be done with porcelain laminates. It can be used to permanently change the color characteristics of teeth that are colored by certain factors or are genetically dark tones. In people with minimal crowding, it can be applied as an alternative to orthodontic treatment with necessary abrasions. Porcelain laminates can be used in smile design to regulate the smile profile.

Who is not suitable for Porcelain Laminate treatment?

In the presence of diseases that cause the destruction of the enamel tissue, the amount and quality of the tissue on the tooth surface is not sufficient for the porcelain laminates to be bonded. In addition, in teeth with high coloration, porcelain laminate may be insufficient to completely hide this color. In these cases, since porcelain laminate treatment cannot be applied, alternative treatment methods should be evaluated. Individuals who have bad habits such as nail biting, pencil biting, clenching teeth or gnashing place an excessive load on the application area. In addition, in individuals with jaw relations where the lower jaw is positioned at the front or the teeth are closed head-to-head, disproportionate weight distribution occurs in the teeth and the chance of success of the treatment decreases. In patients in whom these problems affecting the life of the treatment are observed, if porcelain laminated is desired, the main causes of the problems should be treated first.

What should you expect in the porcelain laminated treatment process?

Porcelain laminated treatment; It is usually completed in 2-3 sessions. This process may vary depending on the number of teeth to be treated and the condition of these teeth. In the first session of the treatment, the teeth are measured without any operation on the teeth. The view that is planned to appear at the end of the process is designed on the model obtained from this measure and the mold is created for the proofing phase. In the next session, the planned appearance is rehearsed on the patient with the prepared mold at the end of the procedure. If the rehearsal goes well, the front surfaces of the teeth are abraded to prepare a place for porcelain laminate. Since erosion is minimal in this treatment, mostly no pain is felt. If necessary, local anesthesia can be applied to prevent the patient from feeling pain. After abrading, a new measure is taken to create the model from which the porcelain laminate will be prepared. Temporary laminate is placed on the tooth surface until the day the porcelain laminate is attached. In this way; The possibility of sensitivity in the teeth is prevented, aesthetic problems that may occur in intermediate sessions are prevented. When porcelain laminates are prepared, their compatibility with the tooth is checked and adhered to the tooth with special adhesives.

What should be considered in the post-application process?

If oral care is good, laminates can be used healthily for many years. To provide this care, attention should be paid to standard oral care, which includes tooth brushing and the use of dental floss or an interface brush. Also, tooth and laminate care should be taken to keep the joints clean.
